On September 19th, the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club invited volunteers and landowners to an appreciation night and the club’s 60th anniversary recognition at Kimberley Hall. Attendees were greeted with a spread of delicious cheeses and fruits, birthday cupcakes from President Joan Nuffield, as well as coffee, tea and delectable desserts from Highland Grounds. It was a well-earned evening of camaraderie and conversation for all the landowners and volunteers, who contribute in so many ways – from maintaining trails to stewarding land to helping at hiking events and so much more!
Volunteer of the Year was presented to Glenda Collings. Glenda has served many years as the Trail Activities Director and is well known by many of those present as she is the driving force behind the club’s non-stop hike schedule and organized hike events. As board members are not eligible to receive the Volunteer of the Year award, Glenda’s efforts could not be recognized until this year when she stepped down from the board. She still spearheads and coordinates the club’s trail activities and is now the very deserving recipient of this year’s award.
After a brief recognition of the volunteers by Bruce Trail Conservancy CEO, Michael McDonald, Joan Nuffield introduced the evening’s speaker. Tim Lanthier, Grey Sauble Conservation Authority CAO, gave an informative talk about the history of the Conservation Authority as well as their current role. The question and answer period was lively and a perfect end to the scheduled events.
The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club looks forward to another great year and we hope that if you did not join us this year, you will come join us a new or returning volunteer at next year’s gathering!
