Jack was a pioneer of the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail, a long-serving volunteer doing the hard work on the ground to secure agreements with landowners to let the Trail pass over their property, and securing land for conservation forever. Jack was tenacious and passionate and would go to great lengths to secure handshake agreements and keep the Trail off the road.
Not only did Jack work to secure landowner agreement to use private land for the Trail, he was also active in developing trails for the Bruce Trail. Jack’s signal Trail development project was leading the building of a 30 km optimum route addition to the Trail, along with its integrated side trails, into the upper reaches of the Boyne/Beaver River system. That now well-known length of the Bruce Trail has come to be called The Falling Water Trail.
Jack was a powerful force in the Club and in the community. Even after stepping back from many active duties, he was available for advice, fellowship and ideas. His frequent comments on the Newsletter were a joy to read and a source of inspiration.
