Have you been thinking about getting more involved with the Bruce Trail and its mission of conservation and outreach? Maybe in a less physically demanding (and less mosquito-bitten) role than trail work, hike leading or land stewardship?
The Bruce Trail Conservancy is committed to preserving a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever. To make that a reality, we must do all that we can to help make the Bruce Trail and our organization a welcoming and inclusive space. The Beaver Valley Club is looking for one or two volunteers to join our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. The committee is made up of volunteers from all 9 clubs of the Bruce Trail Conservancy and members of the main office Bruce Trail Conservancy team. The committee will meet via zoom, once a month for approximately an hour (with the exclusion of the summer months), to discuss outcomes and opportunities for engagement. There is no need for a background in DEI work, just a desire to learn and to engage with new and diverse audiences.
proposed responsibilities
- Share ideas and best practices on how to reach different communities within their clubs. This could include but is not limited to: Indigenous communities, LGBTQ2+, newcomers, ethnic minorities, BIPOC, youth etc.
- Cross promote events on social media
- Provide some basic info on the BTC and Clubs in other languages – if possible
- Develop ideas on how to evolve the committee
Discussions are open and thought-provoking and conducted in a safe environment without judgement or prejudice. Members of the committee often find themselves gaining as much from the conversations as they contribute to them. If you believe that the outdoors belong to us all and are interested in participating in the discussion, then please consider joining our group.
