UPDATE SEPT 8, 2023: For those that have missed the webinar but would still like to join, please click here to see the updated hike info and location.
Do you know someone who is new to Canada? Or new to hiking? If you do please invite them to participate in our new hiking event “My First Hike”. We especially welcome new hikers from groups which have traditionally not been represented in the outdoor recreation community – including but not limited to: newcomers to Canada, Indigenous community members, members of the BIPOC community, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
This program is intended for those new to the Bruce Trail and hiking.
The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club is pleased to join the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s “My First Hike” Initiative. This program will introduce those new to the outdoors community and/or newcomers to Canada to hiking, the Bruce Trail and the Bruce Trail Conservancy in a fun and open-minded environment. In addition to learning some new skills, meeting like-minded individuals and getting out on the trail, participants will also earn a “My First Hike” badge.
My First Hike with the Beaver Valley club will start with an online webinar on Sept 7, 2023, 7:00pm. Glenda Collings (Beaver Valley Trail Activities coordinator & Hike Ontario Certified Hike Leader) will introduce participants to the Bruce Trail, information about outfitting for a hike (clothing, backpacks, safety items), how to understand and use the online Bruce Trail Schedule to join a hike and how to navigate the trail.
Webinar participants will then be invited to join a short guided introductory hike on September 16 at 10:30 a.m. during which we will have a chance to meet, ask questions, practice safety and navigation and discover the trail in an inviting, casual setting.
Webinar registration has closed. If you are still interested in joining us for the hike, please click here for “My First Hike” information and location.
