As the health and safety of our Club members is of utmost importance, the BVBTC’s AGM event on Sunday, June 22, 2025 was cancelled. Environment Canada issued a dangerous heat and humidity warning, and the Kimberley Hall, like many of our cherished historical buildings, is not equipped with air conditioning.

While not gathering last weekend was disappointing, we will celebrate all of our achievements at our next in-person event after the summer. Please stay tuned for details.

Stay cool and well!

Keith Solomon Award

Each year, our club presents the Keith Solomon Award — fondly referred to as “The Boot” — to celebrate an individual or group who have made a significant contribution to the improvement or preservation of the Bruce Trail in the Beaver Valley.

This year’s recipient is the Ice Storm Response Team, which quickly rallied together to clean up and restore safe access to the Beaver Valley trails following the destruction caused by the late-March ice storms.

Six members of the Ice Storm Crew stand around a fallen tree.

We are grateful to all the Trail Development and Maintenance volunteers dedicating their time and skills to clearing and cutting through damage while leaving room for regrowth. This includes our Flying Squad, Trail Captains and crews providing status updates, identifying dangerous situations, chainsawing and cleaning up debris to make the trails safe again. Through these efforts, the BTC community and hikers were kept up to date on the status of the trail. This heavy lifting was accomplished by our club’s volunteer base with appreciated additional support other clubs provided for our Flying Squad.

A big thank you to the Ice Storm Response Team for restoring our trails — all while also working on a major trail development project at Eagle’s Summit!

The presentation of The Boot will occur when we gather next in person.
