The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) held its annual awards ceremony as part of the Annual General Meeting in September. Several of our members were recognized for their many efforts and contributions to the Bruce Trail with awards at this event!

Bob Hann and Joan Nuffield were presented with the Calypso Orchid Environmental Award. The Award is given to an individual, group, institution or company that has demonstrated a significant contribution to the restoration and preservation of the Bruce Trail and/or the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve, or significantly enhanced the education of users or potential users of the Trail and/or the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve.

Bob and Joan have earned this award in spades! Over the past five years, both have headed work on eradicating invasive species in the Beaver Valley section. Bob and his work crews have been tackling the thorny issue of buckthorn. Joan has been organizing work parties and speaking to students of Grey Highlands and educating the public to reduce the spread of highly invasive garlic mustard.

Additionally, Glenda Collings was recognized as the BTC Volunteer of the Year! With seemingly boundless energy, she has taken on several roles with the BVBTC since joining our Club.

Glenda has distinguished herself as an enthusiastic ambassador of the Bruce Trail. She heads the Activities Committee, is badge queen extraordinaire and one of our hike leaders. Glenda is an organizer and driver for the Trail Angels program. She’s a hike buddy to those hikers in need of a companion. She recruits volunteers with that extra bit of spark that only Glenda has. And Glenda also makes time to perform her duties as one of our trail captains.

Congratulations to Bob Hann, Joan Nuffield and Glenda Collings! We are so grateful for all the work they do for us!

Last Chance for Hiking...

We’ve extended the hiking schedule, but this is your last chance to get out before the hiking season is over for the year. Join Ruth Moffatt on the Falling Water Trail for one or both hikes. Best of all, hikers that complete both hikes will earn a Falling Water triangle badge!

Look for our winter season hikes beginning in January. Check back regularly for updates to hike schedules. Remember to click the page reload button on your web browser to bring up the most recent web page!

Membership is not required to join our hikes. New hikers are always welcome. See December Hikes for details on our organized hikes.
